CRESCENT PLUME

ADULT: Wingspan up to 22mm. Another typical Plume-Moth with a warm brown appearance that is darker in the male than the female. The markings are light ochre dominated by a crescent shaped mark centred on the cleft base.  It is a simply marked species and one easily overlooked. LARVA: The foodplant is Common Rest-Harrow and Spint Rest-Harrow. The green larvae which hibernate, feed on leaves and shoots also pupate on the foodplant. BEHAVIOUR: A day flying moth with adults also attracted to light. HABITAT: A lover of dry habitats such as grassland, dune systems, sea cliffs and shingle beaches. FLIGHT PERIOD: June to August. STATUS: A local species more frequent on southern Britain.
